Achoo And Your Spirited Child

I’ve been feeling low on energy all week and finally put two and two together once I started sneezing, and sneezing some more, that I have a cold and that’s why I’ve been feeling fatigued.

We had shakes and popcorn for lunch ’cause ya gotta do what ya gotta do when naptime isn’t coming fast enough and all you wanna do is sit and read…with tissue.

Oh, my Mom just sent me that book sitting right there called Raising Your Spirited Child by Mary Sheedy Kurchinka. I’m on page 70 (out of 292) and already I feel like I understand Wesley more, it’s pretty amazing. Plus I’m learning things about myself along the way, like I’m temperamentally intense and an extravert, whereas Wesley is temperamentally intense but his needs tend towards those of an introvert. Of course it’s not to say you have to strictly be one or the other, but it’s interesting thinking about what you or your child’s first response is to various situations and changes throughout your day and week.

Anyways, so far so helpful, and you might want to check it out.

Weekend fun and tissues here I come! Happy weekend to you!

Learning Books

Want a quick way to teach/review ABC’s, colors, numbers, opposites, measurements, algebra (haha), or whatever you want to work on with your child?

An easy way that’s been helpful for me is to use a binder with those clear sleeves and put whatever I want into those.

For instances I had these two books with nice pictures about opposites and ABC’s so I cut the pages out and added them to my binder.

I had some other educational cards that I added.

I also taped some small color flash cards onto paper so I could display those in the sleeves.

You could personalize a book for an older kid too, reviewing roman numerals, fun facts, anything you or they want to focus on.

What I like best about Preston’s book is how I can grab it when I don’t have a lot of time to get out a bunch of educational material and at least I know he’s getting the main things I’m trying to teach him.

Do you have any simple tools you use to teach?

Organized Simplicity

I’ve been wanting to recommend Organized Simplicity by Tsh Oxenreider for months now.

This book is clear. easy to follow. comprehensive. thought provoking. and walks you down a path to simple & intentional living that feels joyously attainable, without painful extremes. Granted the letting go can be painful, though what you gain in exchange, I believe, is more than worth it.

Chalk full of gems:

“You can actually make your life the thing you want, instead of watching from the sidelines those lives you admire and want to emulate. Life is short. Make the most of it
now. Don’t spend precious hours dealing with the clutter in your life rather than experiencing those moments you crave.”

“Holistic living means that your spiritual, relational, emotional, intellectual, physical, and financial lives are working together.”

This book will change your life for the better. The principles apply to singles, couples, parents, anyone really.

Let me know what you think!

P.S. Tsh gives recipes for making your own hair cleanser/clarifier, toothpaste, some cleaning supplies, etc. I’ve been using the hair cleanser/clarifier for months & I’m hooked.

When You Only Have 10 Minutes To Spare

My Mom sent me this book and I keep it in my kitchen and grab it when there’s a little lull in the day, like when my kids are happily munching away on a snack & I have a cup of coffee.

I haven’t finished it yet, as is the case with so many other books I’ve started, but so far it’s been an inspiring and sweet read. I’m also partial to any “Chicken Soup for the Soul” books. You can buy it on Amazon.com for not very much. Any good book you’ve read or are reading? A lot of us love recommendations!
