Vitamin D

I recently found out my vitamin D levels are low and so started taking vitamin D3.

For years I’ve tried to be careful about the sun and almost always wear sunscreen when I know I’m going to be outside for extending periods of time, which is probably one of the reasons my levels were below normal range. I also don’t eat lots of meat, but I do eat fairly healthy most of the time.

Anyways I thought for those of you who are also really careful about the sun it might be helpful to read up on the symptoms and possibly look into getting your levels tested. The fatigue and irritability among other things caught my attention, ha!

I’m hoping to see some improvement in the next few weeks.

Stay healthy!

Healthy Living Tightrope Vs.Trampoline

I have this passion for healthy living, no doubt due to my love of food. : )

It’s not that I’m Mrs. Athletic or only eat health-food, that’s not the case at all. But I do shoot for a few things to maintain a fairly healthy lifestyle.

I’ve been thinking about my teenage & early adult years & why anything to do with food & exercise seemed so much harder. A bit like a losing battle.

At one point I thought I was never going to be able to eat chocolate or ice cream again if I hoped to stay at a certain weight. That was sad. I never did well with diets, they all made me hungry.

It’s not to say I eat whatever I want, whenever I want. Like most gals if I eat poorly for a week it’ll show.

Though what I like most about a healthy lifestyle is all the things you can enjoy!

Granted, when you base your choices off of your health you probably won’t only eat starch & desserts for days on end without any vegetables & fruits, because you’re aiming for quality food overall to help you maintain a healthy average.

Yum

In a way, a healthy lifestyle should be like bouncing on a trampoline — not walking a tightrope.

Sometimes you’ll lose your balance, sometimes you’ll be tired & want a little break (while nibbling on chocolate). That doesn’t mean you’re failing.

Sometimes your weight & energy will vary, but if you’re on the fun trampoline of a healthy lifestyle instead of a stress-inducing tightrope it’s perfectly okay!

Since it’s your lifestyle you’ll want to have goodies sprinkled throughout your eating week, along with some active activities that you enjoy.

Happy bouncing!

P.S. How do you maintain a healthy lifestyle?

Speech Therapy

Last Friday Wesley (4) had his first speech evaluation. We were excited about the appointment because we knew it would give us direction on what areas he needs help in & how to better meet those needs.

The speech pathologist was very nice & worked with Wesley for over an hour. He did great, whizzed through the majority of questions even though his speech isn’t super clear…I was so proud of him!

I was also relieved & rather surprised to find out that due to his age (& particular pronunciation needs) there’s only some areas they can start working with him on. The other areas he has difficulty with will have to wait until he’s 5 before he can receive speech therapy, if he hasn’t learned to make those sounds on his own by then.

So he’s starting speech therapy once a week for 30 minutes, probably for around 6 months & then we’ll see how he’s doing.

It’s such a blessing & a weight off our shoulders to have this direction. In the grand scheme of things I know it’s a small physical issue compared to what some people go through, but still, it must be frustrating to be misunderstood on a regular basis. We feel bad for him.

If you think of us, any prayers for progress in Wesley’s speech are greatly appreciated!
