Homemade Deodorant

I got this natural deodorant recipe from the helpful book Organized Simplicity by Tsh from Simple Mom and have been making it since last year. I’ve told some friends about it so I thought I should go ahead and give you the recipe to try out for yourselves if you’re interested.

I add lemon essential oil to mine and really like the combination of the coconut oil and lemon together. Just pick whatever essential oil you like! A batch lasts a long time.

Recipe:

1/4 cup baking soda
1/4 cup cornstarch
4 to 6 tbsp. coconut oil
Essential oil (only if you want it to have a fragrance)
And then any little jar or container you like, some people use an old deodorant one

And check out the book for lots of other great tips and more recipes.

Have a great week!

And the oil doesn’t mess up your clothes? Would that be food grade coconut oil from the grocery store? Love your blog Lindy! Azure always comments on Preston. “Oh, he’s wearing a hat”, “I want to go visit Preston’s house” Preston made a bif impression! :)

No, it’s not like there’s all that much oil in it, I’ve never had a problem with that. The oil I used is Spectrum (organic unrefined) and it says on the front “perfect for skin & hair”, but it seems like you could use any coconut oil. The bottle I have is white plastic & I also have the same brand coconut oil for cooking use which is in a glass bottle. Maybe you just don’t have to buy the cooking grade since you won’t be eating it…I found my in the beauty section of a health food store.

One thing I’ve noticed is when the weather is hot it’ll get real soft and when it’s colder it’ll be very firm, but that shouldn’t be surprising. : ) And sometimes it’s a bit crumbly so I put it on over my sink.

That’s so cute about Azure! Preston had the time of his life making friends with yours and Amy’s boys.
